For the first time since the botched National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike and former National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff met in Abuja today, as part of the party's efforts to ressolve its differences.

However, the meeting failed to achieve any truce as Sheriff insisted that the National Convention slated for August 17 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State be postponed for one month, and that he should be the one to hand over to the new National Working Committee.
Sources said these conditions, especially one month postponement of the convention were rejected by the governors as tenure of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee will end on August 20.
"Postponing the convention is no doubt a trap from Sheriff because by the end of August 20, 2016, the Makarfi Caretaker Committee will seize to exist, thus creating a vacum, which Sheriff and his external backers are hoping to capitalize on," a source said.
The meeting, which was an aftermath of the meeting held by the reconciliation committee set up by the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) with governors elected on the party's platform, was held at the Gombe State Governor's Lodge, Abuja.
Sources disclosed that Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwanbo, his Taraba State counterpart, Darius Dickson Ishaku and former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido attended the meeting.
A source said that developments at the governor's meeting held at the Ondo State Governor's Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, necessitated the Friday meeting among Fayose, Wike, Sheriff, Dankwambo, Ishaku and Lamido.
The BOT members that attended the Thursday's meeting included Prof Jerry Gana, Senator Biodun Olujimi and Chief Shuaib Oyedokun while the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko also attended.
Sheriff had listed his conditions for peace, which included shifting of the Convention from August 17 to a later date, change of the Convention venue from Port Harcourt to Abuja, removal of Governor Wike as the Convention Committee Chairman among others.
When the governors were intimated of these demands, Governor Fayose was said have expressed his objection, saying; "if the Convention is not held as scheduled, that will mark the end of the party and anyone talking about shifting the Convention is an enemy of the party.

Governor Fayose was said to have been angry at a point when it was insinuated that Governor Wike was supporting one of the Chairmanship aspirants from the Southwest, rising in defense of the Rivers State Governor by saying that there was no one in the meeting without an agenda and Governor Wike was entitled to support whoever he desired.
Another meeting has been slated with the the BOT for this morning.
