Ekiti Begins Rehabilitation Of Federal Roads

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday said that the government’s resolve not to shy away from its responsibilities to the people informed the decision to embark on the rehabilitation of some federal roads in the state.

The governor who spoke in Aramoko-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti West Local Government Area of th‎e state on Thursday during the flag off of the rehabilitation of the Efon-Aramoko-Igede-Ado Road, said the move became necessary since the federal authorities are not responding to same.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the
governor noted that though it is a Trunk ‘A’ road, the state government would not fold its arms and watch the people experience serious discomfort as a result of the deplorable condition of the road.

According to him, “Though this is a federal road, we are going to fix it‎ because we won’t join those who are not giving people value for their votes to further punish our people. We run a responsible and responsive government and people should tell those at the federal level to stop giving excuses and to stop complaining.

“We are calling on federal authorities to be alive to their responsibilities and stop complaining and give us value for our votes, as we will change this change that has brought inconvenience to our
people‎. Despite the paucity of funds, we won’t be deterred and discouraged. We will ensure that the road is made motorable before Christmas period and I urge the people to cooperate with the
contractors,” he said.

He also assured that asphalt would be laid on the Aramoko stretch of the road before leaving office.

In his remarks, the Alara of Aramoko-Ekiti, Oba Olu Adeyemi, said he had written a series of petitions t‎o the Federal Government complaining about the condition of the road.
‎‎

“I am deeply touched by the decision of the governor to start the rehabilitation of this road. The bad portions are menace to us here. That the governor has the view of rehabilitating a federal road, bearing in mind the problems associated with getting reimbursed for it, is very commendable. ‎The governor has left an‎ indelible mark in our hearts,” he said.

The people of th‎e town, who trooped out in their large numbers, praised the governor for the effort, saying the gesture would reduce the auto-crashes which had claimed a lot of innocent lives on the road.
