AN OPEN LETTER TO THE EKITI STATE GOVERNOR, HIS EXCELLENCY, DR. PETER AYODELE FAYOSE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 56TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
Your Excellency,
I humbly write to express my warmest felicitation to you on the landmark occasion of your 56th birthday anniversary, and two years in office as the executive governor of Ekiti State.
As you deservedly celebrate this glorious day, it is my prayer that Almighty God, who has richly prospered you and ordered your every step on the earth surface, will continue to bless you with good health and fulfilment in the many more years of worthy service to humanity ahead of you. The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you.
I see something good happening to you and Ekiti State, something that you have been waiting to express. You will soon witness it, for such is the will of God that by doing right you will forever silence the ignorance of foolish men.
There is no gainsaying that you are a model for good leadership and remarkable statecraft whose exemplary qualities have thrown up as a good servant leader, a visionary and commander of the people for positive change in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
Sir, you are a political leader closest to the grassroots because in and out of office, you are with your people and nothing can hold you down to the governor's office that would not make you come to the people on the streets, where people can hold your hand and talk directly to your ears.
You are not only a giant in nature, but a colossus that walks majestically in the political field. The generalissimo, the grand officer commanding and the only marshal in the field of Ekiti Politics.
I make bold to say that, your sterling and excellent performance so far in human developments and physical infrastructures are greater than that of any other administrators of the state since it was carved out of old Ondo State in 1996.
One good thing I really appreciate in you is that you do not play politics with development of the state and it can be seen that what you did in your first term are those visible things in the state today. Bishop Aditiloye Trade Fair Complex, Fountain Hotel, Lady Jibowu hall, New Accountant General's Office, Ayo Fayose Modern Market (our own computer village), First ever dualisation of Ado Ekiti township roads, your government employed one of the highest number of work force into the civil service between 2003- 2006, as at when you left office in 2006, Ekiti could still boost of #10.4billion in their treasury.
It was also on record that you opened up majority of Ekiti rural roads in which my home town (Ifisin-Ekiti in Ido/Osi LGA) was one of the beneficiaries then. Ikere - Emure, Awo-Eyio, Ado- Afao, Ado -Ikere just to mention but a few and, the on-going King Market (Oja-Oba), first Flyover bridge in Ado-Ekiti, Oba Ajakaiye High Court Complex, dualization of roads across the local governments, completed Adunni Olayinka Women Center and many more are clear evidences that you are the real ARCHITECT OF MODERN EKITI.
According to Laleye Lasore in one of his books, says the so-called Ekiti elites hate you because you did not fly in on the feather of the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo's frame, a method that is becoming a cliche in the politics of south west of Nigeria, but you came into politics ignoring the entrenched elites and chose to put your political tent with the poor, the wretched and neglected, who are grouped together as the "Less-privileged".
They hate you because you proved to the people that power can be easily taken from elites who dictates who and who are to occupy which positions. You also proved to Ekiti People that, the so-called ordinary man can have a bite of power and government positions.
To high and mighty, you have demystified the prestigious office of the GOVERNOR which is an exclusive preserve of the rich and noble by eating in the same bowl with the poor and stopping at the roadside to discuss with ordinary men.
Oshokomole, always remember you have no enemies to fight and your recent visits to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, former governor Segun Oni of Ekiti state ,Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua and naming of the newly constructed women centre after the late deputy governor under your predecessor, Late Mrs Adunni Olayinka has further shown the whole world that politics of bitterness does not exist in your dictionary.
You were illegally removed in 2006 and you came back after 8 years, the same day, the same month after defeating two former governors plus one incumbent; the election in which you whitewashed them in all the 16 local government areas of the Satate.
Though, they tried all they could to stop you from assuming office after the election despite the endorsement of the poll from international organisation and observers including US government but you still went ahead to flogged them from election petition tribunal to supreme court where their illegal impeachment in 2006 was invalidated.
When they came up again with 19 lawmakers, over 203,090 Ekiti people that gave you their mandate resisted and impeached them before they even propose your impeachment.
My fearless governor, I want to commend you on your actions and reactions to burning national issues. To Some people, what concerns Ayo Fayose? But to many Nigerians who understand the basic principles of democracy believe in your agitation for good governance that would give way for overall development of the country. If the 8th Senate can no longer perform one of their functions which is to checkmate the excesses of the executive, then, ordinary citizen like Ayo Fayose aside being a governor can air his opinions which is in accordance with 1999 constitution as amended.
Courageous Peter, the popular friend of Teachers, companion of artisians, lover of students and voice of the voiceless, you will never stumble though thy path be dark as night, there is a star to guide the humble, you will come thousands times, you will always emerge victorious a millions times.
My ever caring Governor, always be equipped with the words of Galatians 6:17. Henceforth let no one trouble you, for you bear in your body the mark of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Act 5:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. Psalm 41:1-2 Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
As you grow in age, you will face rejection, conflicts, and prosecution, because many people are foolish and guilty of "ignorance ". The world is still filled with ignorant and foolish people who reject the truth and do not believe in doing things right. These people are convinced that they are right. In fact, they believe that people living right are fools, do not be distracted by their antics. They will completely fail in Jesus name, amen. Sir, keep on doing your good works.
Once again, happy birthday and many happy returns!
I LOVE YOU, MY GOVERNOR.
Long Live, Peter Ayodele Fayose
Long Live, Ekiti State
Long Live, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Yours sincerely,
BABATUNDE DAVID OGUNKUADE
