Youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, under the aegis of Ekiti APC Youths Congress (EAYC) have condemned the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi over his appointment of non-Ekiti indigenes as his aides, especially Mr Seun Odewale, otherwise known as EggHead, an indigene of Ogun State as his personal assistant.
In a press statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Friday and jointly signed by Mr Tope Ogunkuade and Comrade Tunji Adeleye, Convener and Secretary respectively, the EAYC said it could no longer pretend as if all was well when benefits that should come to the youths in the APC in Ekiti State are being enjoyed by people from other States.
The youths said even though they do not have anything against Mr Seun Odewale and others appointed by Fayemi, they could no longer stomach the pains of being neglected.
They argued that the Minister appointed from Ogun State and other States did not appoint an indigene of Ekiti State as their aides, why then should Fayemi short-change Ekiti by giving position meant for youths in the State to other States?
While calling on leaders of the party to prevail on Fayemi to give due consideration to youths in Ekiti State in terms of patronage, EAYC said the same way he (Fayemi) gave major appointments to non-indigenes of Ekiti State when he was governor is the way he has made an Ogun State indigene his personal assistant now that he is a minister.
They said; “As governor, Seun Odewale was his personal assistant; Maxwell Adegbenro also from Ogun State was his Special Assistant on Social Media, while several other non Ekiti indigenes were appointed as his aides. The moment he lost his re-election, all these foreign aides left Ekiti for their various State, leaving us to face the pain of defeat alone.
“Now that he is a minister, he has also appointed the same Odewale (from Ogun State) as his personal assistant and we wish to ask; is there no indigene of Ekiti State that can function as Fayemi’s personal assistant?
“Painful enough, we are the ones defending him everywhere, especially on social media.
“We are therefore sounding a note to Fayemi to reconsider his attitude of rewarding non indigenes of Ekiti ahead of us.”
