Plotting Fayose’s removal not in our interest – Ekiti APC chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has declared that any plot to remove the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose will not serve the interest of the party, calling on all party members to focus their minds on the 2018 governorship election.

State Chairman of the party, High Chief Jide Awe, in his reaction to claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State that former governor and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi was behind a renewed plot to approach the Supreme Court for a review of its judgment validating Governor Fayose’s election, said the APC in Ekiti State will not support anyone embarking on wild goose chase of Fayose’s removal when another governorship election is close by.

High Chief Jide Awe debunked the PDP claim and vowed that Dr Kayode Fayemi will never be part of any plot to bring the Supreme Court to disrepute by asking the court to review its own judgment when he knew that it lacked powers to do so.

He said it was time that the APC in Ekiti State stopped deceiving its members and teeming supporters with stories of Fayose will be removed today and Fayose will be removed tomorrow. What we need now is to be truthful to ourselves and our supporters.

After June 21, 2014, we fed our supporters with story of Fayose will not be sworn in and they actually believed us. After Fayose assumed office, we boasted to our supporters that he will be impeached within three months, now he is close to three years in office. I don’t think it makes any sense for anyone to be talking about going to Supreme Court or anywhere on Fayose’s removal and I believe Dr Kayode Fayemi, himself understands that.

Most importantly, when we went to the tribunal to challenge Fayose’s victory, Dr Fayemi never supported us at the initial stage. It was even when he (Fayemi) knew that he won’t be the beneficiary of Fayose’s impeachment that the impeachment plot spearheaded by Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin failed.

It is on record that assembly members loyal to Dr Fayemi worked against the impeachment and I am sure that the same Dr Fayemi will not be investing his resources on Fayose’s removal now that election is less than 15 months.

I therefore urge those who have declared their interest to vie for our party ticket to contest the 2018 governorship election not to continue with their mobilisation. They should not be bothered with any story of anyone going to the Supreme Court to orchestrate Fayose’s removal because I can say it categorically that such move will only make Ekiti people to see our party as trying to destabilise the State.

I also urge Ekiti people to begin to see between the lines and restore their confidence and trust in our party.

Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
