Ogun Festival: I would have been a professional driver if I were not Educated -Jide Egunjobi

Sunday, 20th August, 2017

Award winning Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jide Egunjobi has charged drivers in Ekiti to make investing in the education of their children their topmost priority. He made the remark while addressing drivers from Ekiti South West Local Government who had gathered at Ilawe Ekiti, the LG headquarter on Saturday to celebrate the 2017 Ogun Festival.

Stressing the importance of education in the present age, Egunjobi told the gathering that the best legacy they can bequeath their wards is quality education. He said "Driving is my hobby, driving is what I enjoy doing most, if not for education, I would have been a professional driver. All the same, my advice for us all is that we invest very seriously in the education of our children so they can become better than we are in whatever profession they choose".

The commissioner also reiterated the need for the drivers to continue to support the policies and agenda of the state governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose as always.

Egunjobi, a dissident of the Akogun family of Ilawe Ekiti played host to different groups from Ekiti South West on Saturday in an atmosphere devoid of politics. He said every Ogun Festival since 2010 gives him reasons to appreciate God Almighty for sparing his life.

He said, "I happen to come from the Akogun family which forms part of the people celebrating the Ogun Festival, so for every Ogun celebration yearly, I must be in attendance, I celebrate with all the factions celebrating, I am not only a commissioner for PDP members, I am a commissioner for all in my community. I celebrate with the Okada unions, the drivers' Union et al, it is a tradition, this is what we do, it is celebration for all".

"One other significance of this Festival day is that at every recurrence of the Ogun Festival yearly since 2010, I keep thanking my God for the fact that I was not mistakenly killed. I don't want to go back to history but you would recall some things happened in 2010 during the celebration of Ogun Festival and it was politicised all through, my official vehicle was burnt down completely with all my belongings inside the vehicle. I would have been burnt if I were unfortunate, I would have been killed if I were unfortunate. I keep thanking God Almighty for preserving my life up till this day. So, for every recurrence of Ogun Festival, I always give thanks to my God".

Egunjobi admonished Ilawe youths to keep up with tradition and ensure tradition does not perish. He also encouraged the youths to give maximum support to the Ayodele Fayose administration especially on his continuity agenda adding that continuity is the sure way to stability and progress.

"This government must continue, this government must move on, that is the only way we can have stability, that is the only way we can have progress and that is the only way we can be able to measure up as a state in Nigeria. I urge all Ekiti youths to support the continuity agenda of Dr. Ayodele Fayose".

Personalities who celebrated the 2017 Ogun Festival with Hon. Egunjobi include the Ekiti State Head of service, Dr. Gbenga Faseluka, APC and PDP Chieftains amongst others.

Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
