Ekiti 2018: Segun Oni sets to dump APC as Obasanjo gathers more people to form coalition against Buhari’s 2nd term
Barring any last minute change of plans, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Segun Oni may be among those on their ways out of the APC to join the army of politicians being gathered by former President Olusegun to form a coalition and oust President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oni, who is presently nursing the ambition of picking the APC ticket to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, was among those who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014 on the instruction of Obasanjo.
The APC Deputy National Chairman is said to have started reaching out to some aggrieved leaders of the PDP in Ekiti State with a view to getting them to buy the idea of having what is called “the third force.”
“Segun Oni is Obasanjo’s person 100 per cent and whatever he is asked to do by the former President is what he will do. Oni has said several times that if Obasanjo wants him as his gateman, he will willingly accept.
“Therefore, with Obasanjo going against President Buhari as he has done, Oni is as good as out of the main structure in the APC and it is only a matter of time for him to move out of the party to join the coalition being championed by Obasanjo to remove Buhari,” one of Oni’s close ally said.
Already, the coalition being championed by the former President is said to have the support of seven governors and twenty senators as well as other notable politicians.
The coalition, which is due for launch January, 31 is currently being coordinated by a former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who is also a close ally of Chief Oni.
Oyinlola is reportedly acting as the national spokesman of the coalition and such roles would be appointed at all levels, including state, senatorial zones, down to ward level,” said a source close to the secretariat.
In 2012, Obasanjo installed the duo of Oyinlola and Oni were installed as PDP national secretary and National Vice Chairman (Southwest) respectively. It was the removal Oyinlola, Oni and Chief Bode Mustapha from the PDP national exco that angered Obasanjo in 2013.
Source said Oni attended a meeting Obasanjo reportedly held with former Nigerian leaders, serving governors, lawmakers and other key leaders across the country before deciding to form a coalition to reform the country.
Seven governors, 20 senators and over 100 House of Representatives members are said to have agreed in principle with Obasanjo to go into this coalition.
