Fayose Approves Bursary/Scholarship Awards To Ekiti Students



Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose has approved 2017/2018 Bursary and Scholarship awards to the qualified students in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Jide Egunjobi made this known in a press statement released in his office yesterday.

According to the Commissioner, Mr. Governor had approved the disbursement of scholarship and bursary awards to the qualified students in the state, saying verified students were proposed to the governor.

He said 2, 805 students were qualified for bursary award across the 16 Local Government areas of the state at the rate of 10,000 per student which amounted to #28,050,000.

The Commissioner explained that 184 Law Students had been screened and qualified for bursary awards at #150,000 per student which amounted to #27,600,000 while
450 undergraduate students had been screened and qualified for scholarship at #60,000 per students which amounted to #27,000,000.

Egunjobi also explained that 15 Physically Challenged students were screened for scholarship at #60,000 per student which amounted to #9,000,000 while 198 Masters degree programme in Nigeria were also qualified for the scholarship at the rate of #250,000 which amounted to #49,500,000.

"17 Masters degree ( oversea) qualified for scholarship at #500,000 per student which amounted to #8,500,000, we also have 160 PhD Students ( Nigeria ) at #750,000 which amounted to #120,000,000, while 30 PhD Students ( Oversea) qualified for scholarship at #1,500,000 which amounted to #45,000,000.

"The disbursement will be in tranches. The first tranche is scholarship for 450 undergraduate and 15 physically challenged students.The disbursement to their banks would commence on Wednesday, 21st March, 2018.

"Other tranches would follow as soon as the disbursement is completed", Egunjobi said.

The Commissioner stated that Governor Ayo Fayose had earlier disbursed the outstanding 2012 / 2013 bursary awards in four tranches to 7,070 students at the rate of #10,000 per student which amounted to #70,700,000.

He stressed that Ajayi Yemisi Caroline of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti was schemed for Federal scholarship for two years at #100,000 per session while Ala Oluwapelumi Adebayo, the best candidate in NECO Examination in 2015/2016 was given entrenched Scholarship Award at the University of Ibadan to study Surgery at #850,000 per session and Adedipe Oluwatosin of the Sheppard Group of Schools was given #2.5m Scholarship Award for excellent performance.

The Commissioner implored the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.
