Workers in Ekiti state have been assured of job security. The assurance was reaffirmed Wednesday by the Ekiti State deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka during an interactive meeting with some teachers' leaders from Ikere local government.
Addressing the teachers, Prof Eleka said, "APC has an agenda, and the agenda is what is gradually manifesting. I can boldly say this because there was a time I had the opportunity of representing Mr Governor in one of the meetings. The APC governors were canvassing for retrenchment, downsizing. They said, "We are having challenges paying salaries, if you can not afford to pay salary, the best thing to do is to downsize."
"Okorocha did it, Plateau state governor has done it. Kogi, and Kaduna etc. If you look at all this, you will not see any PDP state. In fact, my Governor came out then and told them that they are on their own, that as far as he's concerned, Ekiti case is different, that he's not ready to downsize.
"If you say some people are not capable, there is always provision for training and retraining. On-the-Job training and On-the-Job retraining is allowed. You can be rest assured that with this continuity, there is security of job.
Stressing the need to support the Continuity agenda, Eleka said, "you may not be card-carrying members of PDP, but you're lovers of Ayo Fayose. You're lovers of good governance. Anybody who loves good governance must be ready to stand with this course, this 'Eleka for Governor'. It is not continuity for enslavement as some people would erroneously call it. It is continuity for greater libration."
Reassuring Ekiti workers of governor Fayose's belief, Eleka said they will not leave office debtors of salaries. "They're saying we did not pay salary regularly, yes, it is an open secret, but it is not intentional, all the States except Lagos are owing either salaries, allowances or arrears of leave bonuses ranging from local government level to the state level. It is an evidence of serious economic recession. It is not that the money is there and the state government is not paying, no. It is an evidence of APC maladministration at the Federal level
"It can not continue like this, the international oil price now is improving, and we know in the next few months we are going to reap the benefits of the improvement.
"My governor said, and I align myself with it; we are not going to leave this office as debtors of salaries," he assured.
The meeting which was held in the deputy Governor's conference hall also had in attendance SSG, Dr Mrs. Alade; Commissioner for finance, Toyin Ojo; Commissioner for Agriculture, Kehinde Odebunni; Commissioner for Commerce and industry, Ayodele Michael (Salindo); OMM coordinator Wale Ayeni; House of Assembly Members, and Special advisers.
