Akwa Ibom Government Inaugurates Committee On Agricultural Investments



The Akwa Ibom State Government, has inaugurated Committee on Agricultural Investments in the state with Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government, as Chairman.


The committee was inaugurated on Friday, by Governor Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by the SSG, Dr Ekuwem, at the conference room of the SSG'S office, Government House,Uyo.


The Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Investments Committee which has the Executive Director, Agricultural Investments in the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Pastor Umo Eno as Secretary is composed of the Member, Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Mr Gabriel Nkanang; Chairman, Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investments, Mr Gabriel Ukpeh; Commissioner for Investments and Trade, Prince Ukpong Akpabio and the Executive Chairman, AKICORP, Dr Elijah Akpan as members of the Committee.


Other members are Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr Glory Edet; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Uwemedimo Nwoko; Commissioner for Lands and Surveyor General of the State, among others.


The SSG said the committee is very critical to Governor Emmanuel administration's revolution in agriculture, adding that the inauguration of the committee is a further demonstration of the state government commitment to increase state's investments in agriculture.


Describing the committee as a one-stop investment desk, Dr Ekuwem said the committee is to work towards rapid translation of agricultural investments ideas to reality and fastrack agricultural investments to the state.


According to him, the Governor's industrialisation drives and revolution in agricultural sector is aimed at diversifying the economy of the state for sustainable development and wealth creation.


He added that investments in agriculture sector is underpinned by the fact that when petroleum products will no longer be largely patronised, the state will have something to fall back on.


The State Chief Scribe said it is

a desire of the governor that most of what is consumed in Akwa Ibom should be produced in the state because of its

rich vegetation and favourable weather.


In their separate remarks, Secretary and members of the committee plegded their readiness to deliver on the obligations.
