Ekiti PDP Chairmanship: Kolawole Urges Issue-Based Campaign Among Aspirants

Ekiti PDP Chairmanship: Kolawole Urges Issue-Based Campaign Among Aspirants

A frontline contender for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chairmanship position in Ekiti State, Hon. Bisi Kolawole has urged other aspirants for the chairmanship position to reach out to party members across the State as he is doing,  and make their campaign issue based.

Speaking at Ise/Orun and Ikere Local Government areas on Monday, Hon. Kolawole said the party should welcome many aspirants to the fray as this would help the process of mobilisation towards rebuilding the party.

According to the former lawmaker representing Efon Constituency, "it is high time we make it real competitive by encouraging as many people as possible to fight for available positions and this will give a strong signal that our party is democratic, unlike other parties that would just select their executive members.

"However,  the aspirants for various positions in the State Executive Committee must avoid campaign of calumny. Rather,  we should all approach the process practically by selling ourselves to party members and prospective delegates at the ward, local government and state levels.

"Aspirants should formally inform their wards and they should be seen on the field campaigning vigourously among potential delegates and party members. This is what I have been doing for the past few weeks and I have visited nine local governments, talking to leaders and followers. I have also listened to them from one local government to the other. Our discussions are no doubt based on issues, affecting our party at all levels and how to tackle them."

On what placed him ahead of other aspirants,  Hon.  Kolawole said; "My presentation and responses can be succintly put in these few words; that I am a loyal party man who if elected as  chairman will uphold party discipline, emplace a well-structured administrative setting that will run an acceptable system from the state through the local government to the wards and units.

"That I will forge unity among party members and bring everybody on a solid platform for ultimate victory. I want to assure you all that my tenure as  the state chairman of our great party will signify a new era of competitive primaries where the best will emerge  to represent us in all contests and above all it is my promise that my leadership will produce Ekiti Governor from PDP in 2022."

Stakeholders in the two local governments affirmed that the erstwhile commissioner for environment was the first and the only aspirant who had visited to tell them about his ambition. They appreciated his clarion call for unity of purpose and wish him all the best.

Hon. Kolawole, who was well received at the two local government areas by party leaders and  stakeholders, including the former deputy governor, Prof Olusola Eleka was accompanied by leaders from various local governments across the state.

Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
