Gov Fayemi Ordered Sack of Workers, Not Me, EKSU VC Replies Critics

Gov Fayemi Ordered Sack of  Workers,  Not Me,  EKSU VC Replies Critics

The Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Prof. Edward Olanipekun has blasted his critics over the sack of over 1,000 workers of the University, saying "The University's Visitor and Governor of the State, Dr.  Kayode Fayemi authorised the sack and half of what the governor instructed that I should do to reduce wage bill are yet to be done."

EKSU Governing Council appointed by Governor Fayemi, had approved the sacked of over 1,000 academic and non-academic staff, claiming irregularities in the employment of over 600, over aged, and others.

In a press statement personally signed by him today, Prof Edward Olanipekun advised the affected staff to seek redress in a competent court of law if they feel cheated with the decision of the University Council.

"The University Management has set up panels that will look into different complaints from the affected staff.

"We only carried out the instructions of Mr.  Governor and we have no regret about it," the Vice Chancellor said.

Prof. Olanipekun called on all stakeholders not to politicise the workers sack.

While appreciating the union leaders for their cooperation, the Vice Chancellor saluted the security agencies for being proactive in this trying time.

"We have to sanitise the university, and the last has not even been heard concerning Mr.  Governor's directive on reduction of the University wage bill," Prof.  Olanipekun said.

Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
