As the Ekiti State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) gears up for its crucial Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, the party is engulfed in an intense internal crisis.
Over the past two weeks, mounting tensions and power struggles have cast serious doubt on the party’s ability to present a united front.
A party insider revealed the depth of the conflict, stating, "How can an individual boast of having the entire State Working Committee (SWC) in her pocket? It’s been said that every executive member has a price tag."
The source continued, "This is not acceptable at all. We would rather destroy everything than let one person dictate the direction of the party."
This sentiment has sparked significant unrest among party members, many of whom are deeply concerned about the implications of such central control.
"We cannot allow an individual to take total control of the party. The executive must act in the party’s interest, not in the interest of a single person," the source added.
Despite these internal squabbles, another party member urged caution, suggesting that the current turmoil might be overblown. "Presently, all we are hearing or seeing is just an assumption," he said.
"We are waiting for the State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting at the end of the month."
This member also criticized the party's strategic approach, arguing against the internal zoning of positions. "Politically, it’s not reasonable for a party that is not in government to zone party positions," they noted. We should be looking for capable hands ready to move the party forward."
While the discord continues to simmer, hopes are high that the forthcoming SEC meeting will provide a resolution. "We hope and believe that the SEC will do justice to all the abnormalities coming from the SWC," the party member concluded.
As the Ekiti PDP navigates this turbulent period, all eyes are on the upcoming SEC meeting, which many see as a critical juncture for the party’s future.
