In a promising development for residents and motorists plying Olora route in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Public Works Corporation is gearing up to launch a major repair initiative for Olora Road, a vital thoroughfare that serves as a lifeline for residents traveling to the Federal Housing Estate, Teaching Hospital, and Adebayo areas.
The road has been a source of frustration for commuters, and the administration is determined to make it a top priority.
Engr. Adewale Fagoyinbo, the Director General of the Ekiti State Public Works Corporation, acknowledged the challenges faced by residents during a recent interactive session with BAO Media Centre.
“Olora Road is a priority,” he stated emphatically. “The Governor himself is deeply concerned about it. We are committed to getting work underway, and if all goes well, we plan to address this road head-on by January.”
The urgency of this repair initiative stems from months of complaints about the road’s worsening condition, which has hindered the smooth flow of traffic and posed safety risks for drivers and pedestrians alike.
The local community has expressed their desire for a pothole-free road, especially with the increasing traffic in the area. Fagoyinbo outlined a clear strategy for achieving this goal, emphasizing the need for adequate equipment and resources.
“We need new equipment, and we’ve included this in our budget request for the upcoming year,” he explained. The Director General highlighted the importance of investing in quality machinery, noting that while brand new equipment is ideal, they may also consider refurbished options that include new engines and gearboxes, ensuring longevity and efficiency.
“With the right tools, we can implement a zero pothole policy across Ekiti,” he added, reflecting a strong commitment to improving road conditions.
Currently, the corporation is wrapping up the Oke-Ila to Prison Road project, which has been about 80% complete. Fagoyinbo acknowledged that the heavy rainfall has caused some delays but assured residents that work would continue diligently.
“Once we finish the Oke-Ila stretch, our sights are firmly set on Olora Road,” he said, exuding confidence that this initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the state’s infrastructure.
Fagoyinbo also shared insights into the operational capabilities of the Public Works Corporation, explaining how having multiple teams and sufficient equipment would allow for efficient road maintenance and repairs.
“With proper maintenance of our current equipment and the addition of new tools, we will have the capability to manage road conditions proactively,” he noted.
The Director General also mentioned plans to invest in an asphalt plant for producing high-quality asphalt in-house, significantly reducing costs and ensuring timely road repairs.
As the Olora Road repair initiative gains momentum, residents can look forward to a future with improved infrastructure, enhanced safety, and a more efficient commuting experience.
With these developments on the horizon, the community’s hope for a pothole-free Olora Road is becoming a tangible reality, marking a significant step toward better urban planning and infrastructure in Ekiti State.
