...says, "My party is dead, let young leaders take over"
Governor Biodun Oyebanji's people-oriented governance continues to earn admiration from unexpected quarters, as a notable chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunday Osanyintuyi, has thrown his weight behind the Governor’s recent empowerment initiative for young artisans.
Mr. Osanyintuyi, who served as Director of New Media Committee for the PDP during the last governorship election, gave this surprising endorsement following Governor Oyebanji’s decision to sponsor the graduation (freedom) of 20 young apprentices across the state, a follow-up to the touching intervention for Master Idris Ajetomobi, a young barber from Ado Ekiti whose freedom was earlier paid for by the Governor.
The selection of the 20 new beneficiaries, according to the Director General of the Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso Omotoso, will be done through artisan associations across the 16 local governments.
Reacting to the gesture, Mr. Osanyintuyi said the Governor’s approach is “an impactful means of touching lives where it matters,” adding that such personal sacrifices for the people cannot be ignored, even by the opposition.
“BAO will win the next election 100%, God keeping us,” Osanyintuyi declared. “I am not taking to undue praises. But with what I saw two weeks ago in Ekiti and those I spoke with, BAO will be there till 2030.”
He revealed that his recent tour of the state opened his eyes to the depth of support the Governor commands across communities, noting that “until today, nobody has been able to contradict my observations.”
In a scathing remark aimed at some of his party leaders, he added, “It is a pity that some politicians don’t see beyond those who have turned them to ATMs in Ekiti. Can you fight a man who throws his hard-earned resources at ‘where belle face’ politicians in Ekiti? Awon oniranu dede.”
Calling for unity beyond party lines, the PDP stalwart urged Governor Oyebanji to keep leading the state with courage and vision, hinting that the next political conversation should focus on 2030 and beyond.
“All we can ask is for BAO to do more in leading our state forward till 2030. As at today, Ekiti is with him 100%. They will return him to power from June next year,” he said.
He further called for a generational shift in political leadership in Ekiti by 2030, suggesting that older political figures should begin to pave the way for younger minds.
“People around my age must take over as leaders after 2030. We must be positioned to replace this set of senators, reps, gov and others. All the current leaders above 55 should drop personal interests for Ekiti’s interest after 2030,” he stated.
