Ekiti Will Not Sacrifice Meritocracy on the Altar of Incompetence in 2026

By Michael Falodun

As the governorship election draws near, it is essential to note that the politically savvy Ekiti electorate, especially those of the All Progressives Congress (APC) background, will not entrust their political future in the hands of a learner when a proven, tested and trusted brand remains readily available.

Amidst the noise created by the self-proclaimed "King of Incompetence," Engr. Kayode Ojo, who seems to believe the APC ticket is his birthright, it’s important to recognize that his claims are misleading and disconnected from the political landscape.

Let’s recall that Ojo and his associates were actively involved with a different political party in 2022 and have yet to reintegrate into the APC. In fact, this group of political opportunists has not reacquired their memberships in the APC following their defection before the last gubernatorial election.

In 2018, Ojo entered the political arena as a relative unknown and faced a decisive defeat.

In 2022, he announced his candidacy and campaigned vigorously, only to be overwhelmingly outpaced by a new contender: BAO.

Rather than accepting this defeat, he engaged in prolonged litigation, dragging the party from the High Court to the Supreme Court, squandering time and resources in the process.

This behaviour should disqualify him from receiving any consideration within the party, as the APC has a standing policy against taking legal action against a sitting governor. Ojo should count himself fortunate that the APC leadership in the state has not expelled him and his disruptive allies.

After failing to succeed in his legal battles, he has attempted to undermine the APC while openly collaborating with opposition forces.

His tenure as Pro-Chancellor of FUOYE was lacklustre and failed to demonstrate any genuine capacity for leadership or institutional development.

Now, as we approach the 2026 elections, this individual seeks to present himself as a saviour? The people of Ekiti are more discerning. Our party will not reward disloyalty, entitlement, and persistent bitterness with a leadership position.

In contrast, Governor BAO has constitutional backing to pursue re-election. He enjoys unprecedented support from all living former governors of Ekiti State, regardless of party affiliation. He also has a unified endorsement from APC structures at every level, state, senatorial, local government, ward, and polling units.

Democracy hinges on numbers, performance, and acceptance, not on noise or self-aggrandizement.

The APC will not exchange a proven and reliable leader for someone whose record is characterized by political outbursts and personal ambition. BAO embodies continuity, competence, and collective progress.

Ekiti is not for sale.
Ekiti is not a test ground for unproven candidates.
Ekiti stands for builders, and not embittered marauders.

APC Governorship Aspirant, Atinuke Omolayo, Participates in Delegate Congress in Emure

October 25, 2025 A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo (née Okeya), who was duly screened and cleared by the party’s National Screening Committee, has demonstrated uncommon party loyalty by stepping down for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and actively participating in the delegate congress held today in her Eporo Ward, Emure Local Government Area. Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
