Oyebanji in ADC with El-Rufai? God Forbid - Femi Orebe Blasts Opposition Over 'Sick Joke’

Veteran columnist says Governor Oyebanji won’t trade the people’s love for political mischief or opposition inferno

Respected elder statesman and columnist, Dr. Femi Orebe, has come down hard on what he described as a wave of juvenile propaganda currently being deployed against Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, describing the latest rumour of the Governor’s alleged defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as laughable, dangerous, and insulting to the people of Ekiti.

Orebe, in his latest article published Sunday, July 13, titled “Ekiti Politicians and Chicanery”, said nothing could be more ridiculous than the claim that Governor Oyebanji, whose administration is currently enjoying massive public goodwill and political peace across board, would jump ship to join “the likes of El-Rufai” in what he called “a party of strange bedfellows.”

“Do they, in their lives, think Oyebanji can so whimsically throw away the people’s love and certain victory by jumping into the same boat with the El-Rufais of this world? God forbid bad thing,” Orebe fired.

He warned that such baseless allegations are not just mischievous, but a desperate attempt by confused opponents to unsettle Oyebanji’s growing acceptance across Ekiti State.

“Governor Oyebanji now transcends political divides. What we are seeing is envy dressed up as propaganda. They don’t even know where to begin with him,” Orebe stated.

According to him, rather than face the difficult task of proposing workable plans for development, some opposition actors have resorted to name-calling, character assassination and concocting impossible defection theories, all aimed at creating tension in a state currently enjoying rare political calm.

“The 2026 election won’t be about noise. It will be about track records and trust. And when you line them up, Oyebanji is the people’s choice, by a landslide,” he added.

Orebe, a known voice of reason in Nigeria politics, concluded with a word of advice to opposition elements, saying;

“Enough of these jokes. Tell Ekiti people your plans if you have any. The man you’re chasing has brought peace, stability, and results. The people know this, and they will speak with their votes again.”

Mrs. Omolayo, who was warmly received with an Ọ̀wọ̀ song by jubilant party members, expressed appreciation to her ward for the support they gave her when she initially declared her intention to contest for governor. She explained that her decision to step down for Governor Oyebanji was informed by his wide acceptability across the state, sterling performances in office, and commitment to Ekiti’s growth and development, which she described as derivatives of continuity. While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Omolayo urged party members in Eporo Ward...

Ignore Rumours: APC Confirms Governor Oyebanji’s Name to Be Submitted to INEC on January 16, 2026

…As APC Spokesperson Reiterates Official Candidate List Ahead of Publication The APC Integrity Caucus has moved to dismiss what it describes as a reckless and senseless rumour being circulated by a few individuals posing as party members. The gossip, they said, claims that the party “does not intend to submit” the name of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement released on Thursday, November 14, 2025, the caucus said such claims are baseless and should be ignored by every well-meaning member of the public. “Since the successful conduct of our governorship primary on October 27 and the ratification by authorised delegates on October 29, some mischief makers have been whispering that the party will not submit Governor Oyebanji’s name to INEC. This is completely false,” the statement read. The caucus emphasized that the APC operates according to a clearly defined timetable, which specifies the dates for submissio...
