…urges Lustay to address allegations levelled against him rather than maligning others
Prince Dayo Olofinniyi from Ilawemo Quarters, Are-Ekiti, has come out strongly in defense of Otunba Lekan Oyebanji, describing as unfair and unfounded the recent labeling of him as a “defacto governor.”
Olofinniyi, in a statement made available to newsmen, faulted remarks made during an interview by one Lustay, which he said were laced with pejorative language aimed at tarnishing Otunba Oyebanji’s reputation.
He explained that Otunba Oyebanji has built his own political and business career over the years, long before his brother emerged as Governor of Ekiti State. According to him, Otunba Oyebanji once served as Secretary to the Local Government and later as Chairman under former Governor Segun Oni’s PDP led administration, even when his brother was in the opposition party, the ACN.
“It is only natural that he supports his brother who is now Governor. That does not make him a defacto governor,” Olofinniyi said, stressing that throughout his public and private life, Otunba Oyebanji has never been linked to any shady dealings or fraudulent practices.
He added that the businessman should be allowed to concentrate on his oil and other ventures without needless distractions from political name-calling.
“Anyone defending himself against allegations should do so without dragging Otunba Oyebanji’s name into it. He is not even a government appointee, so it is unfair to use him as a scapegoat,” he stated.
Olofinniyi reminded politicians that “there are no permanent enemies in politics, only permanent interests,” urging restraint and maturity in political discourse.
